Although it was put on hold after Universal Studios balked at the high price tag, the project to adapt Stephen King’s dark fantasy western The Dark Tower for the screen is still very much on track according to producer Brian Grazer.  The ambitious project is being directed by Ron Howard, and will involve theatrical releases as well as television mini-series.

Following their success with George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, HBO is reportedly enthusiastic to take on the epic project, which originally spanned seven full-length novels and inspired a successful Marvel Comics adaptation.  Grazer told MTV that he believes actor Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men) is still interested in playing the role of iconic gunslinger Roland Deschain.  ”We’re going to do it right,” Grazer affirmed.

  1. Hello Javier, you’re looking much improved since I last saw you in No Country for Old Men.

This definitely seems exciting and interesting. Like ‘Game Of Thrones’ epic success.. I’m sure HBO will honor the book fans. Well even ‘Game Of Thrones’ has slight story changes but nothing major unlike stupid teen series like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Secret Circle’. Those 2 series were clearly made keeping teens.

I’m looking forward to ‘The Dark Tower’
